FALSE FRIENDS/FAUX-AMIS

WHAT A SHAME!

                                                                                                                Lucy & Malcolm Turnbull

Didn’t I tell you that president Macron was well respected abroad? As you know, following his trip to America, he also went to Australia and to New Caledonia (a French collectivity). Australian people all agreed that president Macron has grown in international stature; he is the man of the moment — youthful, energetic and able to communicate in an immaculate (perfect) English with big leaders such as Donald Trump. Before he left, he thanked Australian prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull   “thank you and your delicious wife for a warm welcome the perfect organisation of this trip” he said before the two men shook hands. Unfortunately for him, delicious can only be used for a very tasty meal in English and if it’s used for a person that means the person is “good”, “sexy”! The whole press laughs at this faux-pas. Don’t take nothing for granted, you always have to check when it comes to important task! Be careful with FAUX AMIS. I hope that Mr and Mrs Turnbull won’t divorce after that revelation! Afterwards, president Macron flew to some more Pacific shores because France has a little control in the region with New Caledonia and French Polynesia. (See the map). Hopefully, president Macron didn’t try to speak patois when in he was in Ouvéa, New Caledonia!

WORLD NEWS

   USA

President Emmanuel Macron has just come back from America where he met president Donald Trump. Hand in hand they had  good time, alongside Brigitte Macron and Melania Trump. Unlike previous French presidents, Emmanuel Macron is very keen on speaking English and adores using English slogans such as "soyons competitive!", "start up nation", "choose France" and of course "make our planet great again". President Macron admits that he has to speak English because it had become an international language of business and medium of communication.  It's true that he has restored France's image on the international scene! He is said to be Europe's diplomatic leader! yo! you see the advantage of speaking English!

Wait & see what the future holds for us!

CONSEILS/SUGGESTIONS

SHOULD
Lorsqu’on donne des conseils on utilise le modal Should
#
You should work instead of wasting your time!
You shouldn’t sleep so late; you’re always tired at school!

SHOULD HAVE + Participe Passé

⇰ You should have called her when she needed you!

⇰ He shouldn't have cheated during the exam!

OUGHT TO

# We ought to eat  lots of vegetables and fruit every day (Nous devrions manger beaucoup de légumes et de fruits tous les jours)
Ought to est le seul modal qui s’utilise avec « to » + proposition infinitive.
Forme négative : You ought not to/ oughtn't to watch films for hours (Tu ne devrais pas regarder des films pendant des heures !
# Should you sleep more to be fitter?

# You’d better practise some sports or you will get fat!
Forme négative : You’d better not drive after three pints of beer !
Forme interrogative: à éviter, plutôt utiliser Should

I’d rather (J’aimerais mieux/je préférerais)
# I think, I’d rather drink water.
#What would you rather have, tea or chocolate?

D’AUTRES STRUCTURES POUR EXPRIMER DES SUGGESTIONS

What about + Gérondif( Vb-ing) ou How about + Gérondif (vb-ing)
-What about playing ping-pong? (Si nous jouions au ping-pong? / Que diriez-vous de jouer au pin pong?
-How about going to the cinema? (Si nous allions au cinéma?)

Why not + Base verbale
-Why not study in London? Or Why don’t you study in London? (Pourquoi ne pas étudier à Londres? / Pourquoi n’étudies-tu pas à Londres ?))
Would like to + Base Verbale
-Would you like to go to the swimming pool?

-I would suggest working harder = I would recommend working harder = I advise working harder
-I suggest you should call a cab. (je vous suggère d’appeler un taxi).
-I recommend you to bring some water!
-I advise you to bring your kids! (Je te recommande d’emmener tes enfants!)
-I advise my children against stealing!

-Shall we go to the restaurant?
-Let’s sing, shall we ?

1ère structure avec If   : If +Verbe présent simple/Will +Base verbale.
-If you work harder you will pass your exam ((concordance des temps comme en français/Si tu travailles davantage tu réussiras tes examens)
2ème structure avec If : If + Prétérit modal / Would + Base verbale
-If I were you I would study my mock exam!

STOP ALL WARS

Yesterday morning I woke up late, I had nothing to care about cause it was the first day of deserved holiday. While having my coffee, I put the radio on and heard some awful news: the US, UK and France launched missile strikes against targets in Syria. The military action was to punish the Syrian regime for an alleged chemical weapon attacks on civilians.
Yesterday night before I went to bed I heard that president Emmanuel Macron, supported by president Donald Trump alongside prime Minister Theresa May wanted to launch a diplomatic initiative over Syria after launching missiles. It's a joke, isn't it?
Those three allies (US, FRANCE, UK) seem to rule the entire world and they expect Russia and Turkey to join them around the table to promote PEACE!!! That bloody war started seven years ago and nothing had ever been done to stop the massacre!
I just can’t believe how the world is going mad. Too much ego undermines those new political leaders; they just want to show off but we pay the consequences! At the end of the day, it’s just a waste of time; money (13 missiles launched for 16 million Euros) and very dangerous cause without no doubt their funny behaviour create disorder in our daily life and to a larger scale it might lead to a World War3. They haven’t learnt from the past yet!
The amount of money that all nations invest into weapons could easily feed the whole planet, bring joy to all people into crisis and of course would stop WARS. That’s why I can’t get on well with politicians, they don’t have any logical sense, live for them and spend their mandate on lying. Welcome to the POLITRICKS arena
